Concerto for Trumpet in Eb
By J.B.G. Neruda, arranged by Thomas Bough

This concerto from the early Classical era is well known among trumpet soloists. Now, for the first time, a performance edition for band has been arranged using Finale software and modern scoring practices. Although the solo part is very challenging, the band parts are relatively easy in terms of notes and rhythms. The challenge lies in accurately capturing the style of the Classical era, in terms of articulation, note shaping and dynamic contrasts. The accompaniment parts were written with a small band in mind, to avoid sonic competition with the soloist. Mrs. Erica Bough appeared as the soloist on the first two performances of this arrangement, with Naperville Central High School (Naperville, Illinois) and Downers Grove South High School (Downers Grove, Illinois), respectively.
